Buying stuff
3:
If you get whatever
you want, you're very lucky indeed. Tough on the planet though.
If you just get what you need, you're very unusual — and a real planet-friend. If you borrow money to satisfy your wants, how do you pay it back?
Going shopping a lot is probably not a good idea — unless you're very strong willed and can resist the temptation to buy more and more stuff. A famous writer (Oscar Wilde) once remarked: "I can resist everything except temptation". For some people, shopping becomes addictive, like a drug.
Packaging (plastics, paper, cardboard) is a problem because producing it uses lots of energy and pollution. And as soon as you've taken the packaging off your purchase, what do you do? Throw it away — creating more pollution and trash. You can recycle some. Boxes make good containers for your stuff. Better to avoid over-packaged things if you can (difficult I know).
